Northern Kentucky University (NKU) is seeking a committed and inspiring leader to serve as the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, starting July 2017. As NKU approaches its 50th anniversary in 2018, this dean will work closely with members of administration, faculty, and staff to implement and refine a new incentive-based budget model, to sustain and advance the mission and vision of the college, and to expand opportunities for research and experiential learning for students.
A comprehensive public university of 14,500 students located in the metropolitan Cincinnati area, NKU is committed to serving students from the region and beyond. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest of the university’s six colleges and teaches over half of its credit hours. The college has 10 academic departments, a School of the Arts, and five centers; it offers over 50 degree options for undergraduates as well as 5 master’s degrees. The college also fosters transdisciplinary learning through partnerships across campus.
The successful candidate will have qualifications sufficient to be appointed to the rank of full professor in the college and demonstrate a commitment to academic and inclusive excellence, including a focus on the retention and success of all students, faculty, and staff. In addition, our next dean must possess the ability to think strategically, listen carefully, prioritize effectively, and act decisively. The dean should value and appreciate the arts, humanities, and sciences, be able to thoughtfully and transparently allocate resources, develop strong partnerships with community leaders, be an effective fundraiser, and work collaboratively and collegially with both internal and external constituencies. We are seeking a leader and advocate with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and integrity.
